Abstract

Affected by the ongoing effects of the global financial turbulence, the overall PC shipment volume growth slowed in the fourth quarter of 2008. Netbook PCs, which appeared beginning from the year-end 2007, however, enjoyed rapid shipment growth in 2008. Ever since, PC brands have extensively launched new netbook PC products, including Taiwanese Acer Aspire One and Asus Eee PC. Dell and Lenovo also launched similar products at the end of the third quarter of 2008. Furthermore, HP's 10" low-price netbook PC also started to appear on the market in the fourth quarter of 2008. Japanese Toshiba, Fujitsu, and NEC followed suit and debuted similar products in the fourth quarter of 2008 as well.
